Colorful Fall Wedding at Grand Lake Lodge in Grand Lake, Colorado

WEDDING STORY
Grace & Isaac’s Grand Lake Lodge wedding was a heartfelt and vibrant celebration set against the stunning backdrop of the Rocky Mountains. They began their day with an intimate ceremony on a scenic trail near Monarch Lake before heading to Grand Lake Lodge for their reception.. You can bet your bottom that tears were shed and champagne was popped! They requested minimal formal portraits, preferring candids and raw emotions to posed shots with their families and wedding parties, which is how I knew they were a perfect fit for my shooting style. Their wedding party didn’t consist of a “bride’s side” and a “groom’s side” - they were just one big collective party. Then they made their way to their reception at the Lodge. Grace and Isaac kicked off their reception with a private first dance on the wedding deck before joining their guests. The main way to describe their reception is FUN with a classy, western flare. There were games galore, a tapas buffet, and the groom actually did a bit of DJ-ing to get the party started. The love and joy between these two and their community was palpable and contagious.

STAY AT THE LODGE
If you live in Colorado, you know we’re not known for big bodies of water. That’s why I love Grand Lake. Sitting at 8,300 feet of elevation, it’s surrounded by the signature Rocky Mountain Views. The town of Grand Lake is also home to a three-lake system. With motor boats zooming around the lake, it reminds me a little bit of the midwestern “lake life” vibe I grew up with, but made even more amazing by being in the mountains. How can you beat that? Staying at Grand Lake Lodge makes wedding logistics seamless for couples and their guests. With cozy cabins, on-site amenities, and its proximity to Rocky Mountain National Park, it's the ultimate home base for a full wedding weekend. It’s the perfect oasis for couple’s and their guests, with an array of cozy cabins, basketball and volleyball courts and hiking trails right from the lodge. It backs up to one of the entrances to Rocky Mountain National Park, so make sure to reserve some time to explore there as well!

GRAND LAKE LODGE WEDDING CEREMONY SITES
While Grace & Isaac opted for an off-site ceremony, Grand Lake Lodge offers stunning on-site wedding ceremony locations with panoramic mountain and lake views.

  • Nuptial Knoll: The most popular wedding site, ideal for up to 150 guests, featuring unobstructed Rocky Mountain views.

  • Lookout Deck: A smaller, more intimate option for couples who want a private ceremony with a breathtaking lake and mountain backdrop.

WEDDING RECEPTIONS AT GRAND LAKE LODGE
The Grand Lake Lodge wedding reception space combines rustic charm with modern elegance. The Mountainside Pavilion, nestled in an aspen grove, is an open-air log cabin with 3,100 square feet of space, accommodating up to 150 guests. Whether you choose to keep the setting natural or spice it up with florals and decor, this venue is a perfect setting for dinner, dancing, and sunset wedding photos with the Rocky Mountains in the background.

Best Time of Year for a Wedding at Grand Lake Lodge

The best time for a wedding at Grand Lake Lodge depends on the experience you're looking for, as each season offers something unique:

  • Summer (June - August): Ideal for those who want warm weather, lush greenery, and outdoor ceremonies. The mild temperatures (60°F to 80°F) make it comfortable for guests, and the area is vibrant with activity. Keep in mind that this is peak season, so early booking is recommended.

  • Fall (September - October): Fall is my personal favorite, offering stunning views with changing leaves and cooler temperatures (40°F to 70°F). This is a great time for fewer crowds, but be prepared for variable weather. The Colorado golden rule is to always pack layers!

  • Spring (April - May): Spring is quieter, with blooming scenery and fewer visitors. Temperatures range from 40°F to 60°F, but weather can be unpredictable, so planning for indoor options is key. Keep in mind that Spring comes a little later at higher elevations like this.

  • Winter (November - March): For a winter wedding, Grand Lake Lodge offers a serene, snowy backdrop with fewer crowds. However, temperatures can drop to 20°F to 40°F, so be prepared for cold weather and potential snow. Winter weddings require careful planning for heating and indoor options.
